Kitty Von Krypt: Needle Play

Hello, my name is Kitty, I am an alternative model and content creator from North Wales, UK. In my vanilla life I am a professional body piercer.

In my kink life I have been involved on and off with play piercing for over 10 years, as a needle bottom (person being pierced), but since becoming a body piercer 2 years ago it has naturally become a much bigger part of my kink sessions and I have been able to safely explore the needle top (person performing the piercings) role, performing these piercings on others.

I am in no way an expert and this blog isn't a "how to".

If you are interested in learning how to engage in this practice safely I highly recommend first training in first aid, taking a course on blood borne pathogens, learn about anatomy, and have a look for kink clubs and events in your local area that host sharps play dedicated events, and also contact a reputable body piercer and ask if this is a service they offer.

Play piercing comes with many risks and is not something that should ever be performed by anyone who is untrained.

So what IS play piercing?

Play piercing is the act of inserting needles, and sometimes jewellery, into the body with the intention of being temporary. Play piercings are not meant to be long term piercings and are usually removed within a few hours of being performed. They are a fun way to add a new dynamic to kink scenes, or even just a cool way to add something eye catching to an outfit for an event!

Play piercing has been done in different cultures for hundreds of years for different reasons, and it became popular in the LGBTQ+ community, which bled into the world of piercing and body modification, leading to a huge boost in play piercing being performed in the 90s/2000s thanks to sites like BME which allowed people to showcase their work.

The most popular types of play piercing are probably the corset piercing, or the angel wings piercings, but there are many other types of play piercing! The corset piercing is typically two rows of piercings down someone's back or leg, connected with ribbons in a criss-cross pattern. Sometimes decorative and ornate, sometimes simple, there are many ways people like to explore with creating different patterns and sensations with piercing.

Hypodermic needles are commonly used for play piercing, other ways people explore this are - surgical staples, piercing needles, porcupine quills, sharpened bone and more. Each tool requires its own training and safety protocols and should only be performed by someone with adequate training.

So WHY do people engage in this practice?

Sometimes, people do it simply because they like the look. For others, it can have cultural/religious meanings. For some, it can be helpful for emotional healing - being pierced multiple times in one session triggers an endorphin release, which can be cathartic for some.

Its important to note that play piercing is not exclusive to BDSM and not everyone who engages in play piercing does so for kink reasons.

So there you have it, a short introduction to the world of play piercing kink. If you'd like to find out more there is a plethora of information available online, and please remember not to try anything without adequate knowledge!
